Variety reports that Friday and The Italian Job director, F. Gary Gray, has secured the rights to use Marvin Gaye’s unimpeachable catalog of music from his Motown years for a biopic on the singer. Gray had previously been unwilling to make the movie without securing these rights (I mean you couldn’t really do the thing without them).
Songs include “Ain’t That Peculiar,” “What’s Going On,” “I Heard It Through The Grapevine” and Tammy Terrell duets like “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” “Ain’t Nothing Like The Real Thing” and “Ain’t We Gonna Sing A Song That Doesn’t Begin WIth Ain’t?” Fine you got me, that last one’s NOT a real song. Cheap joke, swish!
