Jay Reatard - Singles 06-07

Jay Reatard will settle for nothing less than rocking your face off.  I’m not sure if that’s his personal mission statement but, if not, then he should definitely consider it.  And if you disagree with it, then I dare you to cross Mr. Reatard unless you’re hoping he asks you what the five fingers said [...]

Two-fer Tuesday with Beck

If this blog were an FM radio station we’d not only be offering you a Two-fer Tuesday to lighten your drive-time commute but hey, we might go all out and make it a block party weekend with Beck.  In anticipation of the July 8 release of Modern Guilt you can stream new songs “Orphans,” “Gamma Ray” and [...]

New Order, Live in Glasgow

It might be blasphemy to say that I like New Order better than Joy Division (it’s true) but for those of you who like both, check out New Order doing Transmission, Shadowplay and Love Will Tear Us Apart from their new Live In Glasgow DVD.
iMeem is streaming the entire thing here.

New Vampire Weekend Video - “Oxford Comma”

Before you watch this video, watch Wes Anderson’s American Express commercial below.  Director Richard Oyade pretty much rips it off in a video that portrays the band as they deal with new found fame, fans and imitators.

New Franz Ferdinand Tracks

The guys have posted loops from several new songs from their forthcoming LP.  Some of these things are impressive and seem to hint at a funkier, more groove based album than the previous two.  Pretty enjoyable stuff for 30 second loops.

New Pharrell, Julian Casablancas & Santogold Track for Converse + MP3

We mentioned this collabo a while ago and it sounded like something that could either be Mount-Olympus-awesome or ear-rapingly bad. Thankfully it falls more into the Mount Olympus category. The track is called “My Drive Thru” and as previously mentioned it was commissioned as part of Converse’s centennial celebration.
Stream it at Stereogum. [...]

Albert Hammond Jr., GfC mp3

Albert Hammond Jr.’s first solo record, In Transit, was a delightful surprise that no one really expected to be as likable as it was (I mean that backhanded compliment in the best way possible).  With its scratchy guitars and 60s hooks it made great summer driving music.
Now the guy’s gone and made another record, Como [...]

The Endorsement: Crystal Stilts

Full disclosure.  I don’t actually know what qualifies as ‘post-punk.’  There I said it.  So sue me, I’m sure I’m not the only hipster out there who doesn’t know either.  Sure, I have a vague idea of the overarching umbrella of a mystery wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a riddle that is post-punk, but [...]

The Virgins: New Album, model citizens & mp3

The Virgins make simple, hard-to-dislike rock.  Shades of The Stones at their funkiest and The Strokes (if they liked to have fun) make their music ass-shakingly awesome.  They’re album came out yesterday and now they’ve been photographed by gonzo photographer, Terry Richardson for Vogue Homme.  We have to say the guys clean up nice.  Too [...]

Nike Be True Family Reunion

This past Sunday, Nike hosted an exclusive event to celebrate the inimitable Dunks.  Festivities included the hip hop orchestra conducted by Double G, The Cool Kids and No Age.  Along with the music there was a Celtic dunk tank, free BBQ, a slip and slide and, oh yeah, free Dunks for lucky party goers (like [...]

New Beck, “Chemtrails”

This is the first track to emerge off the new, Danger-Mouse-produced LP from the white, electric soul machine. Definitely more in line with his psychedelic “Mutations” era stuff than any of the beat driven stuff from his last two albums.
Personally, we think Beck is due for another genre album similar to “Sea Change” (still [...]

New White Williams Video, “Violator” & MP3

Our old buddy, White, went all the way back to his New Violence EP for his latest video.  We were infatuated with the 90s action video for “New Violence” and this one takes a decidedly different approach (i.e. he actually appears in the thing).  Enjoy.

No Age x New Era cap

For all you Dean and Randy fans out there, here’s one piece of merch you won’t (unless you do) be finding at their next show.  The 5950 has teamed up yet again with a premiere artist and this time it’s the L.A. punk duo who get their due.  More info at GvB and enter for [...]
